Georgetown Economic Development

Walter Barkalow, TASUS

“Georgetown is the right place to be.”

In 2003 the TASUS Corporation selected Georgetown, Texas as the new location for their business expansion and developed a plastic-injection-molding plant.  TASUS is a Tier 1 and Tier 2 supplier of OEM parts to major automotive industries.  Why Georgetown?  A number of key factors converged to give Georgetown an advantage and provide TASUS with a high quality production team.

Like the home of their premier U.S. plant, Bloomington, Indiana, Georgetown is a college town with a close-knit community.  The residents of Georgetown embody the hard-work ethic and family values that are among the cornerstones of the Japanese culture.  Additionally, recent plastics plant closures in the Central Texas area meant that Georgetown had an available talent pool with the specific knowledge, skills, and abilities needed.  TASUS representatives were further impressed with Georgetown’s City Officials and how seamless they made the business development process.  Not only was Georgetown the right place at the right time, it was the hometown backbone they needed for a successful expansion in Texas.

TASUS Georgetown, Texas is the corporation’s largest North American facility located on 23 acres of land in an 112,000 square-foot facility.  Originally slated to employ 100 employees, TASUS Georgetown now employs 180 local residents.  The site location provides the flexibility to expand operations as their business continues to grow.
